CFH First Draft: Eliza Callin Ferguson

This post is part of an ongoing series, sharing the first draft of my Revised Callin Family History. 

Eliza Callin is the 13th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Third Generation

 13. Eliza Callin (John-2, James "1st"-1) was born in 1811 in Pennsylvania before her father moved the family to Ohio.  Eliza and James L Ferguson were married about 1832 in Ohio.  James L Ferguson was born about 1810 in Pennsylvania. There are men called James and John Ferguson mentioned in the histories of Ashland and Richland counties, but there is no known connection to this James Ferguson.

It is not clear when the Ferguson family moved west, but they probably left Ohio in the 1840s, when other members of Eliza’s family departed for Iowa, and they settled in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana by 1850. Eliza’s mother (Elizabeth Simon Callin) lived in their household there in 1860 and remained until her death in 1864. Eliza died a few years later on 17 Nov 1870 at the age of 59 in Auburn, De Kalb County. James remained in Jackson, where he died on 16 Dec 1886 at the age of 76. He was buried with Eliza in the Evergreen Cemetery in Auburn, De Kalb County, Indiana.

James L Ferguson and Eliza Callin had eleven children:

41 i. Mary E Ferguson, born 1833, Ohio; married Reuben McNabb, 16 Nov 1854, De Kalb County, Indiana; died abt 1895, Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan.

42 ii. Elizabeth Belle Ferguson, born 11 Jan 1835, Ashland County, Ohio; married George Washington Reed, 27 Mar 1861; married James McNabb, 8 Feb 1858, De Kalb County, Indiana; died 8 Jun 1896, De Kalb County, Indiana.

43 iii. Mildred Ferguson, born 1837, Ohio; married William J Ettinger, 8 Mar 1860, De Kalb County, Indiana; died 8 Feb 1911, Waterloo, De Kalb, Indiana.

iv. George T Ferguson was born in 1838 in Ohio. George died in 1865 at the age of 27; according to the Callin Family History, he died in battle at the Potomac, and service records suggest he may have served with the 13th Regiment of the Indiana Infantry.

44 v. Margaret Jane Ferguson, born 31 Jan 1840, Ashland, Ashland, Ohio; married Jerome B Gallaher, 29 Aug 1858, De Kalb, Indiana; died 6 May 1901, Bayfield, Bayfield, Wisconsin.

45 vi. James L Ferguson, born 17 Oct 1841, Ohio; married Margaret Ann Walter, 9 Apr 1865, De Kalb, Indiana; died 15 Jun 1907, De Kalb, Indiana.

46 vii. Nicholas P. Ferguson, born Oct 1843, Ohio; married Latita Kiester, 26 Apr 1868, De Kalb, Indiana; died 26 Jan 1912, Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.

47 viii. Sarah Ferguson, born 4 Jul 1845, Ohio; married Daniel Myers, 3 Sep 1864, De Kalb, Indiana; died 29 Jul 1934, Perry, Allen, Indiana.

48 ix. Eliza Ferguson, born Mar 1847, Ohio; married Welby N. Myers, 16 Apr 1863, De Kalb, Indiana; died 1 Mar 1920, Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.

49 x. John Dancer Ferguson, born 21 Aug 1848, Ohio; married Lovina Reed, 9 Nov 1871, De Kalb, Indiana; died 13 Mar 1922, Riverside, Huntington County, Indiana.

50 xi. Minerva J Ferguson, born abt 1854, Indiana; married Abner G. Copp, 8 Jun 1871, De Kalb, Indiana; died 1881, Auburn, De Kalb, Indiana.
