CFH First Draft: Minerva Ferguson Copp

Minerva Ferguson is the 52nd person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fourth Generation

52. Minerva J Ferguson (Eliza Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born after 1850 in Indiana and grew up  in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana. Minerva and Abner G. Copp were married on 8 Jun 1871 in De Kalb, Indiana.

Abner G. Copp, son of Jacob Copp (1812–1873) and Isabella "Zibby" Kees (1816–1900), was born on 3 Dec 1849 in Allen County, Indiana. Abner grew up in Cedar Creek, Allen County, Indiana. Abner lived with his parents in Jackson, De Kalb, Indiana in 1870.

After Minerva and Abner married, they lived in Auburn, De Kalb County, where Minerva died in 1881 at the age of 27.


Abner G. Copp and Minerva J Ferguson had three children:


i. Letha Copp died "died at age 3" about 1880 in De Kalb County, Indiana.

186 ii. Caroline Copp, born Aug 1872, Indiana; married Franklin Meese, 6 Feb 1892, De Kalb County, Indiana; died 1909.

187 iii. John Ora Copp, born 12 Apr 1881, De Kalb, Indiana; married Isabella Zeigler, 12 Apr 1904, Steuben County, Indiana; married Esta L Reed, 4 Nov 1944, Hamilton, Steuben, Indiana; died 30 Jan 1972, Hamilton, Steuben, Indiana.


After Minerva’s death, Abner remarried Anna Alice Boran (or Bourne; 1864–1939) in 1884, and they lived in Concord, De Kalb County, Indiana in 1900. Abner and Anna had three more children, Jessie Roy (1884-1962), Vera (1888-1966), and Flossie (1891-1982). Abner died on 25 Oct 1919 at the age of 69 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, St Joe, De Kalb County, Indiana.
