CFH First Draft: Sarah Ferguson Myers

Sarah Ferguson is the 49th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fourth Generation

49. Sarah Ferguson (Eliza Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 4 Jul 1845 in Richland County, Ohio. Her family moved to Jackson, De Kalb, Indiana in 1849 and she grew up there. Sarah and Daniel Myers were married on 3 Sep 1864 in De Kalb County, Indiana.  

Daniel Myers, son of Nathan Myers (1812–1886) and Leah Wagner (1811–1890), was born on 5 Sep 1844 in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The Myers family soon relocated, appearing in Thompson, Seneca County, Ohio in 1850 and in Perry, Allen County, Indiana in 1860. His brother Welby had married Sarah’s sister, Eliza, in 1863.

After they married, Sarah and Daniel lived in Cedar Creek, Allen County, in 1870. By 1880, they were back in Perry, where they spent the following four decades.

Daniel died on 29 Sep 1922 at the age of 78 and was buried Huntertown Cemetery, Huntertown, Allen County. Sarah remained in Perry and died there on 29 Jul 1934 at the age of 89, and was buried with her husband.

Daniel’s obituary appeared in The Fort Wayne Sentinel on 30 Sep 1922, Sat, Page 23:

"Daniel Myers, aged 78, died at 10:30 o'clock Friday morning at Huntertown, following an illness of four years of arterio-sclerosis. He had lived in Allen county all of his life and was a member of the Presbyterian church.

“Surviving are the widow; three children, Edward of Fort Wayne; Bolston [Ralston], of Toledo, and David of Huntertown; one brother, William, of Auburn; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

"Funeral services are to be held from the home at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon and at 1:30 o'clock from the chapel in the Huntertown cemetery. Burial in the Huntertown cemetery."

Daniel Myers and Sarah Ferguson had four children:

174 i. Samuel Ralston Myers, born Feb 1865, Indiana; married Nora Dale Green, 24 Sep 1887, Allen County, Indiana; died May 1947, Allen County, Indiana.

175 ii. Henry Tilman Myers, born 12 Sep 1868, Indiana; married Frances "Fannie" Thompson, 12 May 1898, Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana; died 28 May 1918, Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.

176 iii. David Albert Myers, born 20 May 1873, Indiana; married Emma May Hostler, 1902; married Iva Elizabeth Shirely, 24 Dec 1923, Hillsdale, Hillsdale, Michigan; died 12 Aug 1938, Leo, Allen, Indiana.

177 iv. Edward Alfred Myers, born 13 Sep 1874, Indiana; married Gertrude M Jones, 29 Sep 1901, Lagrange, Lagrange, Indiana; died Oct 1952, Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana.
