CFH First Draft: James Callin (1815-1873)

James Callin is the 15th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Third Generation

 15. James Callin (John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 18 Jul 1815 in Pennsylvania. He and Susannah Stout married on 17 Dec 1839 in Richland County, Ohio. Susannah Stout was born on 5 Sep 1807 in Pennsylvania, though nothing else is known about her family.

They farmed and raised their daughters in New London, Huron County, Ohio, through the 1860s. In 1870 they were living in Rochester, Lorain County, Ohio. James died on 2 Nov 1873 at the age of 58 and was buried in the Day Cemetery near New London, Huron County. Susannah survived James for more than 25 years. She remained in Rochester, and after she died on 5 Jun 1899 at the age of 91, she was buried in the Day Cemetery with her husband.


James Callin and Susannah Stout had two children:


57 i. Mary Ann Callin, born 1838, Ohio; married Elliot Glyde Day, 3 May 1860, Huron County, Ohio; died 20 Nov 1900, New London, Huron County, Ohio.

ii. Sabra Ann Callin was born in Nov 1841 in Ohio. She was a pupil at Ohio Institute for the Blind in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio in 1870 and lived with her mother in Rochester in 1880. Sabra went to live with her sister in New London, Huron, Ohio after her mother died.

Sabra died on 1 Dec 1902 at the age of 61 and was buried in the Day Cemetery near New London with the rest of her family.
