CFH First Draft: John Callin

 This post is part of an ongoing series, sharing the first draft of my Revised Callin Family History. 

John Callin is the 3rd person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Second Generation

3. John Callin (James "1st"-1) was born about 1780 in Pennsylvania, and migrated to Richland County, Ohio, in 1816. He settled on 60 acres of his brother James' farm who "gave him a life lease of it" in what is now Ashland County, Ohio. Census records confirm he lived in Milton, Richland County, Ohio, in 1820 and 1830. He died of tuberculosis in 1835 at the age of 55 and his estate went to probate on 18 May 1835 in Richland County, Ohio. 

John Callin and Elizabeth Simon were married in Pennsylvania about 1801. Elizabeth was born in Nov 1780 in Pennsylvania. After John’s death, she may have gone to live with her children. She lived with her daughter, Eliza Callin Ferguson, in Jackson, De Kalb County, Indiana, in 1860. She died in Nov 1864 at the age of 84 in Auburn, De Kalb, Indiana. 

 John Callin and Elizabeth Simon had nine children: 

    10    iv. Sarah Callin, born on 15 Aug 1801, Pennsylvania; married John Scott, 18 Jan 1823, Richland County, Ohio; died 6 Feb 1872, Winnebago County, Illinois.

            ii. John Callin was born in 1802 in Pennsylvania and died in 1825 at the age of 23 in Ohio. 

    11    iii. George Callin, born 2 Aug 1804, Pennsylvania; married Polly Ann Lewis, abt 1832, Ohio; died 12 Feb 1879, Monroeville, Huron County, Ohio. 

    12    iv. Ann Callin, born 16 Sep 1806, Pennsylvania; married Henry Campbell, 20 Aug 1833; died 18 Mar 1889, Ashland County, Ohio. 

    13    v. Eliza Callin, born 1811, Pennsylvania; married James L Ferguson, abt 1832, Ohio; died 17 Nov 1870, Auburn, De Kalb, Indiana. 

    14    vi. William H. Callin, born 10 May 1813, Pennsylvania; married Elizabeth Berlin, 29 Sep 1836, Richland County, Ohio; died 11 Dec 1881, Bowling Green, Wood County, Ohio. 

    15    vii. James Callin, born 1815, Pennsylvania; married Susannah Stout, 17 Dec 1839, Richland County, Ohio; died 2 Nov 1873, New London, Huron County, Ohio. 

    16    viii. Hugh Callin, born 1817, Pennsylvania; married Barbara Ann Matthus (or Matthews), 13 Apr 1843, Richland, Ohio; died 17 Apr 1856, Richland County, Ohio. 

    17    ix. Margaret Jane Callin, born 1819, Ohio; married her cousin James Callin, 9 Sep 1841, Richland, Ohio; died 1847, Ashland County, Ohio.
