CFH First Draft: Sarah Callin Scott

Sarah Callin is the 10th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Third Generation

10. Sarah Callin (John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 15 Aug 1801 in Pennsylvania. Sarah and John Scott were married on 18 Jan 1823 in Richland County, Ohio.

John Scott was the son of Joseph Scott (1765–1851) and Elizabeth Mary Brown (1778–1848), was born on 6 Oct 1798 in Richland County, Ohio. His parents came from Pennsylvania and were living in Clear Creek, Richland County, in 1820. John appeared there as well, as head of his 1830 household after he married Sarah.

The Scott family left Richland County in 1839, traveled up through Michigan, and eventually settled in Harrison, Winnebago County, Illinois.

John died on 29 Jan 1872 at the age of 73; the Rockford Weekly Gazette reported he “died of an eplieptic (sic) fit on Wednesday the 29th.” Sarah died a few weeks later on 6 Feb 1872 at the age of 64, and they were buried in the North Burritt Cemetery, Winnebago County, Illinois. John Scott and Sarah Callin had seven children: 28 i. George Scott, born 1 Aug 1827, Richland County, Ohio; married Lucetta P Beach, 1851; died 10 Sep 1905, Winnebago County, Illinois. 29 ii. James Scott, born 18 Nov 1832, Ohio; married Charlotte "Lottie" Brown, 1856; died 26 Jan 1916, Shirland, Winnebago, Illinois. iii. Sarah E Scott was born about 1836 in Ohio; she died in 1854 in Illinois and was buried in the North Burritt Cemetery in Winnebago County, Illinois. 30 iv. Rebecca Scott, born Apr 1839, Michigan; married Edward Sharp, 13 Dec 1856, Winnebago County, Illinois; died 28 Aug 1928, Rockford City, Winnebago County, Illinois. v. Nancy A Scott was born about 1840 and died after 1850 at the age of 10 in Harrison. 31 vi. Cyrus H Scott, born 16 Jul 1843, Harrison, Winnebago, Illinois; married Ida May West, 18 Jun 1906, Lake County, Indiana; married Mary Wishop, 1866; died 8 Jun 1931, Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois. 32 vii. Lucina Scott, born May 1847, Illinois; married Joseph Dobson, 5 May 1863, Winnebago County, Illinois; died 21 Jul 1910, Winnebago, Illinois, United States.
