CFH First Draft: James Scott

James Scott is the 31st person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fourth Generation

31. James Scott (Sarah Callin-3, James “2nd-2, James “1st”-1) was born on 18 Nov 1832 when the family still lived in Milton Township, Richland County, Ohio. He moved west with his family when he was young, and grew up in Harrison, Winnebago County, Illinois. James married Charlotte "Lottie" Brown in 1856. Lottie was daughter of Simon Brown and Mary M Pickens, was born on 5 Mar 1842 in East Saint Louis, St Clair, Illinois. Her family lived in Jefferson, Green County, Wisconsin in 1850.   

After they married, James and Lottie farmed and raised their family in Harrison, Winnebago County. They retired from farming around 1886 and moved to Shirland, Winnebago County. James died in Shirland on 26 Jan 1916 at the age of 83 and was buried on 28 Jan 1916 in North Burritt Cemetery in Winnebago County.

Charlotte went to live with their son, Columbus, in Shirland, and also resided with her granddaughter, Mary Deuel Thomas, in Rockford, Winnebago County, in 1930. Charlotte died in Shirland on 16 Jun 1935 at the age of 93 and was buried with her husband on 18 Jun 1935 in North Burritt Cemetery.

James Scott and Charlotte "Lottie" Brown had four children:

96 i. Christopher Columbus Scott, born 2 Oct 1857, Harrison, Winnebago, Illinois; married Ellen Maria Putman, 1879; died 26 Dec 1947, Shirland, Winnebago, Illinois.

97 ii. Mary L Scott, born 29 Jun 1860, Harrison, Winnebago, Illinois; married Albert Taylor, 1890; died 12 Apr 1947, Shirland Township, Winnebago County, Illinois.

iii. William Scott was born about 1869 in Illinois, and he appeared with his family in Harrison, Winnebago County, in 1870. He may have died after 1870, as he is not listed in later records.

98 iv. Ina Belle Scott, born 12 May 1883, Illinois; married Bert Allen Deuel, 6 Mar 1901, Winnebago County, Illinois; married Joseph Simon Peck, 25 Sep 1943, Dubuque County, Iowa; died 25 Nov 1974, Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois.
