CFH First Draft: Lucina Scott Dobson

Lucina Scott is the 34th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fourth Generation

34. Lucina Scott (Sarah Callin-3, James “2nd-2, James “1st”-1) was born in May 1847 and grew up in Harrison, Winnebago County, Illinois.

Lucina and Joseph Dobson were married on 5 May 1863 in Winnebago County, Illinois. Joseph Dobson, son of Andrew Dobson (1815–1910) and Amelia Allen (b. 1819), was born on 16 Nov 1838 in New Brunswick, Canada.  The Dobson family came to the United States in abt 1845 and they lived in Roscoe, Winnebago, Illinois in 1850. Joseph struck out on his own after he turned 21, and lived in Owen, Winnebago County, in 1860.

After they married, Joseph and Lucina lived in Burritt, Winnebago County, where they remained through 1880. They lived in De Kalb, DeKalb County, Illinois in 1900, but they were back in Rockford, Winnebago County, by 1905.

Lucina died on 21 Jul 1910 at the age of 63 in Winnebago County. Joseph remained in Rockford in 1920, but he was living in De Kalb when he died on 27 Feb 1928 at the age of 89. Joseph was buried on 29 Feb 1928 in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois.

Joseph Dobson and Lucina Scott had seven children:

109 i. Alva Grant Dobson, born 11 Jul 1865, Illinois; married Nellie Jewitt Glover, 18 Sep 1895, Winnebago County, Illinois; died 18 Apr 1955, Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania.

110 ii. Harvey N Dobson, born Mar 1866, Illinois; married Carrie P Ackra, 1888, Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois; died abt 1905.

111 iii. Fred A Dobson, born 8 Sep 1869, Illinois; married Sarah Margaret Smith, 30 May 1892, DeKalb County, Illinois; died 22 Dec 1964, Winnebago County, Illinois.

112 iv. Alta M Dobson, born 11 Apr 1871, Winnebago County, Illinois; married Joseph Riel, 27 Nov 1890, DeKalb County, Illinois; married Edward W Jones, 23 Oct 1909, Clark, South Dakota; married 1887; died 20 Jan 1939, Rock Run, Stephenson, Illinois.

v. Bert J. Dobson was born in Apr 1874 in Illinois; he grew up in Burritt, Winnebago County and he lived in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. He died on 18 Nov 1911 at the age of 37 in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois.  

113 vi. Flora Luella Dobson, born 22 Sep 1877, Burritt, Winnebago, Illinois; married Henry James Homan, 6 Apr 1897, Winnebago County, Illinois; died 24 Jun 1960, Dekalb County, Illinois.

114 vii. Jasper Thomas Dobson, born 20 Nov 1881, Dekalb County, Illinois; married Anastacia Cecilia Leary, 30 Sep 1903, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; died 13 Jan 1968, Loves Park, Winnebago, Illinois.
