CFH First Draft: Sarah Alma Scott Wicks

Sarah Alma Scott is the 94th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fifth Generation

94. Sarah Alma Scott (George-4, Sarah Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 9 Oct 1862 in Harrison, Winnebago County, Illinois, and she grew up there on her father’s farm.

Alma and Thomas Wicks were married on 25 Jan 1882 in Winnebago County, Illinois. Thomas, son of George (or James) Wicks and Elizabeth Stickles, was born on 5 Nov 1852 in England, and came to the United States during the 1870s.

Thomas was a farmer and florist. He and Alma lived on a farm in Burritt and in Harrison, and raised their family. Thomas retired from farming in the late 1910s, and he and Alma resided at 611 Acorn in Rockford. Sadly, Thomas was committed to the East Moline State Hospital, probably around 1922, and he remained under psychiatric care for the rest of his life. Alma remained in Rockford.

Alma died at St Anthony Hospital in Rockford on 15 Apr 1944 at the age of 81 and  was buried on 18 Apr 1944 in North Burritt Cemetery, Winnebago County, Illinois. Thomas died in Manteno, Kankakee County, Illinois, on 9 Feb 1945 at the age of 92 most likely at the State Hospital, and was buried on 11 Feb 1945 with Alma.

Thomas Wicks and Alma Scott had the following children:

301 i. George Edward Wicks, born 12 Nov 1883, Winnebago County, Illinois; married Nellie E Weatherhead, 24 Feb 1909, Winnebago County, Illinois; died 26 Nov 1950, Winnebago County, Illinois.

302 ii. Myrtle M Wicks, born Apr 1885, Illinois; married James Henry Weatherhead, 12 Feb 1908, Winnebago County, Illinois; died 17 Mar 1914, Seward, Winnebago County, Illinois.

303 iii. Walter Scott Wicks, born 2 Nov 1887, Harrison, Winnebago County, Illinois; married (308) Charlotte B Taylor abt 1914; died 27 Feb 1969, Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois.
