CFH First Draft: Edward George Scott (1866-1948)

Edward George Scott is the 95th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fifth Generation

95. Edward George Scott (George-4, Sarah Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 7 June 1866, the youngest son of George and Lucetta Scott, and grew up in Harrison, Winnebago County, Illinois.

Edward married Mary Ellen Parker on 4 July 1891 in Holmes County, Ohio. Mary was the daughter of William R Parker (1833–1914) and Isabelle Halsted (1836–1928), born in April 1870. The Parker’s lived in Rockford and moved to Auburn Fayette County, Iowa, in the 1870s.

Edward worked as a painter in Rockford. Between the birth of their youngest daughter at the end of 1905 and the 1910 Census, Edward and Ellen moved to Labette County, Kansas, where they remained there until sometime in the 1920s, when they moved to San Diego, California.

Edward ran a grocery in San Diego. Mary died on 2 Apr 1938 at the age of 68 in National City and was buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, San Diego County, California. Her obituary appeared in the National City Star-News on 8 Apr 1938.

“Last Services For Mrs. Scott Held

“Mrs. Mary Ellen Scott, aged 68 years, died Saturday, April 2 in National City. Services were held at the Dawson Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon. Entombment followed at Greenwood Cathedral Mausoleum.

“Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, Edward G. Scott; three daughters: Mrs. Hazel M. Williams of National City; Mrs. Lolita Madero of San Diego; Mrs. Isabel Farry of Salt Lake City. A son, Clifford Scott of Yuma; two sisters: Mrs. Clara Booth and Mrs. Josephine Hammond of Rockford, Illinois. A brother, Adelbert Parker of Manly, Iowa; she also is survived by 13 grandchildren.”


Edward died on 2 Dec 1948 at the age of 82 and was buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, San Diego County, California.


Edward George Scott and Mary Ellen Parker had the following children: 

       304          i.   Clifford Adelbert Scott, born 10 Oct 1894, Illinois; married Ethel V Shears 20 Feb 1914, Nevada, Vernon, Missouri; married Emily J Martin, abt 1939; died Nov 1974, Yuma, Yuma County, Arizona.

                     ii.   Clarence H Scott, born abt Feb 1896, Iowa; possibly died after 1900 Census.

       305        iii.   Hazel Madge Scott, born 5 Mar 1898, Iowa; married Delno R Williams, abt 1915, Labette County, Kansas; died 6 Oct 1973, San Diego County, California.

       306        iv.   Lolita Scott, born 17 Jun 1902, Illinois; married Manuel Ralph Madero, abt 1922; died 3 Aug 1995, Douglas County, Oregon.

       307         v.   Isabel Scott, born 13 Oct 1905, Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois; married Joseph Leroy Farry, 1925, Monroe, Sanpete, Utah; died 16 Feb 2004, Spring Valley, San Diego County, California.
