CFH First Draft: Lillian Callin Richards

Lillian Florence Callin is the 118th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fifth Generation

118. Lillian Florence Callin (William H-4, George-3, John-2, James-1) was born on 10 Oct 1861 and grew up in Richmond, Huron County, Ohio. Lillian married Aaron Newton Richards on 17 Nov 1880 in Huron County, Ohio.

Aaron was the youngest son of Richard Given Richards (1819–1895) and Mariah L. Felton (1820–1874), born on 25 Aug 1860. He grew up in New Haven and Chicago Junction (later renamed Willard), Huron County, Ohio.

Aaron and Lillian raised their family on a farm in New Haven, Huron County, Ohio. Aaron was a successful businessman who owned much of the land in what is now the town of Willard. Aaron died on 4 Nov 1923 at age 63 in Willard and was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven. Lillian remained in Willard, where she died on 10 July 1936 at age 74 and was buried beside her husband. Her obituary appeared in the Mansfield News-Journal on 10 Jul 1936.

“Mrs. Lillian Richards, 74, Taken by Death Early Today.

“WILLARD--Mrs. Lillian Richards, 74, widow of the late Aaron Richards, prominent Willard business man, died early today in her home at 325 West Laurel street, following an extended illness. Mrs. Richards, who was a member of the United Brethren church of Willard, is survived by two sons, Willard R. Richards and Virgil Richards, both of Willard; three daughters, Mrs. E.H. Ferris of Cleveland, Mrs. E.H. Harriger of Garrett, Ind., and Mrs. Charles Conklin of Fostoria; nine grand-children, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Clark and Mrs. William Ritz, both of Willard. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.”

Aaron Newton Richards and Lillian Florence Callin had the following children:

       377          i.   Edith I Richards, born 21 Apr 1883, Huron County, Ohio; married Edwin Hayes Ferris, 11 Dec 1907, Huron County, Ohio; died 23 Oct 1951.

                     ii.   Royden Richards was born on 27 Apr 1885 in New Haven, Huron County, Ohio, and died in Willard on 15 May 1885.

       378        iii.   Willard R Richards, born 22 Feb 1889; married Lizzie H Trimner, 17 Nov 1909, Huron County, Ohio; died 26 Aug 1952, New Haven, Huron County, Ohio.

       379        iv.   Fay Eleanor Richards, born 12 Nov 1892, New Haven, Huron County, Ohio; married Erven Hezakiah Harrigar, 16 May 1917, Huron County, Ohio; died 12 Nov 1965, Orlando, Orange County, Florida.

       380         v.   Grace C. Richards, born 23 Sep 1896, New Haven, Huron County, Ohio; married Charles K Conklin, 24 Jan 1917, Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio; died 27 Mar 1970, Fostoria, Hancock County, Ohio.

       381        vi.   Virgil Aaron Richards, born 5 Jan 1899, New Haven, Huron County, Ohio; married Marie Kathryn Miller, 8 Feb 1921, Crawford County, Ohio; died 10 Nov 1948, Willard, Huron County, Ohio.
