113. Flora Luella Dobson (Lucina Scott-4, Sarah Callin-3, John-2, James-1) was born on 22 Sep 1877 and grew up in Burritt, Winnebago County, Illinois.
Flora
married Henry James "Jim"
Homan on 6 Apr 1897 in Winnebago County, Illinois. Jim was the son of Henry
Alexander Homan (1851–1930) and Jane L "Jennie" Jones (1851–1929),
was born on 12 May 1876 in Milan, Rock Island County, Illinois, and grew up in
Malta, DeKalb County, Illinois.
Jim
and Flora lived in Mayfield, DeKalb County, where Jim farmed until sometime
after 1910 when he found work as an engineer in a gas plant. The family moved
to De Kalb by 1920 and remained there for several years.
Jim
died on 23 Dec 1942 at age 66 and was buried on 26 Dec 1942 in Fairview
Cemetery in Dekalb, Dekalb County, Illinois. His obituary ran in The Daily Chronicle on 24 Dec 1942.
“Services for Henry Homan Are Saturday
“Funeral services for Henry J. Homan, 66
years of age, who died at his home yesterday morning are to be held from the
Nelson and Ronan Mortuary on Saturday. Services will be at 2:00 o'clock with
Rev. Joseph Tate of the Advent Christian Church in charge.
“Mr. Homan was born in Milan Township on May 12, 1876. He was married to Flora Dobson on April 6, 1896. His illness has been of several months duration. The passing of Mr. Homan is mourned by his wife and five children, Claude of DeKalb, Mrs. Frank Howard, DeKalb, Chester of Joliet, Mrs. Stanley Dreska of DeKalb and Pvt. Russel Homan of Camp Livingston, La. There are also two brothers, George and Fred and a sister. Mrs. George Jacox, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.”
Flora
died on 24 June 1960 at age 82 and was buried in De Kalb, Dekalb County,
Illinois. Her obituary appeared in The
Daily Chronicle, in De Kalb, Illinois, on 25 Jun 1960.
“Mrs. Flora L. Homan, 82, 150 North 12th
Street, passed away yesterday, June 24, 1960 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was
born September 22, 1877 at Rockford, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Dobson. She was married to Henry Homan at Rockford on April 6, 1896.
“Survivors include three sons, Chester of
Joliet, Claude of DeKalb and Russell, of Cortland; two daughters, Mrs. Grace
Dreska, DeKalb, and Mrs. Gladys Howard, DeKalb; two brothers, Jasper and Fred
Dobson of Rockford, and seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death, by her husband and three brothers.
“Mrs. Homan was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and the Women of Moose. Funeral services will be held at the Ronan-Burch Mortuary at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. Ellery Beal will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 2 p.m. Sunday until time of services.”
