Fifth Generation
64. Rebecca Lucretia Davidson (Sarah Montgomery-4, Elizabeth Callen-3, James "2nd"-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 18 Aug 1842 in Newcastle, Fulton County, Indiana. She was about ten years old when her family set off on the Oregon Trail, and she grew up in Harrisburg, Linn County, Oregon.
Lucretia and Henderson Warren Murphy were married in 1864. Henderson was the son of John Ecles Murphy (1806–1876) and Frances Wright Doughty (1810–1891) - the same John Ecles Murphy who led the wagon train Lucretia's family took to Oregon in 1852. Henderson was born on 3 Feb 1835, during the years when his father was establishing the Church of Christ on Cedar Fork of Henderson River in Warren County, Illinois.
After they married, Henderson and Lucretia farmed and raised livestock in Oregon and Washington Territory, appearing in Peoria, Linn County, Oregon (1870), Alder Creek, Klickitat County, Washington (1880), Buena Vista, Polk County, Oregon (1900) before returning to South Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon (1910).
Lucretia died on 20 July 1917 in Linn County, Oregon, and is buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon, Linn County. Henderson died at the home of his daughter, Carrie, in Vancouver, Washington, on 31 Dec 1918 and was brought back to Oregon and buried with his wife. Henderson’s obituary appeared in The Lebanon Express in Lebanon, Oregon, on 8 Jan 1919.
“Henderson W. Murphy, a well-known pioneer resident of this city, died at the home of his daughter in Vancouver, Wash., December 31st. Mr. Murphy was 83 years of age and came to Oregon in 1852, crossing the plains in that year and making his home near Independence. Later he moved to Lebanon. Mr. Murphy is survived by four daughters and three sons. The daughters are: Mrs. W. L. Wells of Halsey, Mrs. A. M. Raber of Holton, Wash., Mrs. C. J. Diekman of Vancouver, Wash., and Mrs. Kate Stoltz of Portland. The sons are: C. H. Murphy of Albany, O. T. Murphy of Hubbard, Or., and J. D. Murphy of Buhl, Idaho. The remains were brought to Lebanon for interment in the Masonic cemetery beside those of his wife, who died two years ago. Funeral service was held in the Christian church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Albyn Esson, a former pastor of the church in Albany.”
