CFH First Draft: Mary Etta Callin Sattler

Mary Etta Callin is the 60th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fourth Generation

60. Mary Etta Callin (Hugh-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 29 Apr 1846 in the newly created Ashland County, Ohio. She grew up in Milton Township, Ashland, Ohio. They lived in Vermillion, Ashland, Ohio by 1870.

Mary and Jacob L Sattler were married on 26 Sep 1871 in Ashland County, Ohio. Jacob L Sattler, son of Jacob Ludwig Sattler (1817–1881) and Elizabeth Steinheiser (1821–1894), was born about 1846 in Pennsylvania. His father immigrated from Bavaria, and relocated his family to Ohio in 1847. They lived in Milton Township, Ashland County, by 1860.

It isn’t clear when or where Jacob died, but Mary appeared on the Census as a widow living in Ashland, Ashland, Ohio after 1900. She died on 18 Aug 1913 at the age of 67and was buried in Ashland Cemetery in Ashland.


Jacob L Sattler and Mary Etta Callin had two children:


i. John E. W. Sattler was born on 12 Jun 1872 in Milton Township, Ashland County, Ohio.  He lived and worked in Akron, Summit County, Ohio, from at least 1899. John died on 18 Dec 1907 at the age of 35 in Akron, Summit, Ohio. He and the woman he was planning to marry were accidentally asphyxiated by fumes from a small gas stove in the room where he was staying. He was buried in Ashland Cemetery with his mother.

211 ii. Amy B Sattler, born 7 Jun 1879, Ohio; married William Tawse Forbes, 7 Mar 1901, Ashland, Ohio; married Robert Marion Greenlun, 31 Jul 1923, Monroe County, Michigan; died 7 Sep 1967, Ashland, Ashland, Ohio.
