CFH First Draft: Laura Scott Ferns

Laura Scott is the 108th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fifth Generation

108. Laura Scott (Cyrus H-4, Sarah Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born about 1910 and grew up in Harrison and Shirland in Winnebago County, Illinois.

Laura married Malcolm Love Ferns in Apr 1926. Malcolm was the youngest son of Albert Eugene Ferns (1861–1931) and Susie Armilda Gross (1866–1928). He was born on 15 Aug 1905 and raised in Rockford.

Malcolm was a truck driver, and while he was on the road, Laura stayed at their home at 915 Kilburn Ave in Rockford, and worked as an elevator operator for the Hess Company. After the death of their infant daughter in 1929, Malcolm went to sea, making his home in San Francisco, and left Laura in Rockford. She filed for a divorce, which was granted on 18 June 1932. 

After their divorce, nothing else is known of Laura. Malcolm moved to Butte, Montana, where he worked as a miner. He died on 23 Jan 1970 at the age of 64 in Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana, and is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery.


Malcolm L Ferns and Laura Scott had the following child:


i. (Infant girl) Ferns was born and died on 14 Aug 1929. She was buried on 15 Aug 1929 in Greenwood Cemetery.
