104. Jesse Martin Sharp (Rebecca Scott-4, Sarah Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born in Burritt township 25 April 1886 and was a lifelong resident of Winnebago County. After his father died, Jesse remained on the farm with his mother and brothers, until moving into Rockford with his mother in the mid-1900s. He was a salesman in a fruit store, and they lived together on Jilson Avenue.

Jesse married Ellen Amanda Kelley (1890–1945) on 23 September 1908. Her parents were Samuel Henry Kelley (1856–1920) and Della Laura Blackner (1862–1923) of Owen township, and she was born on 2 Aug 1891 in Owen Center, Winnebago County, Illinois.

Ellen and Jesse had a daughter, but their relationship deteriorated to the point that Jesse went to court in 1922 to have Ellen found mentally incompetent. The judge determined that she was sane, and referred their case to divorce court. They were finally divorced on the grounds of desertion in 1924, and Jesse kept custody of their daughter, June.

Ellen found work in Chicago as a maid, and she was eventually remarried in 1939 to an Italian immigrant named John Phillip Rodgers (born Giovanni Filippo Roggero). She died in Chicago on 8 February 1945 at the age of 54 and was buried in Owen Center, Winnebago County, Illinois. Ellen’s obituary appeared in the Register Republic in Rockford on 9 Feb 1945, page 11.

“Mrs. Ellen A. Rodgers, a native of Rockford, died last night in Chicago at her home 6623 South Ashland avenue. Funeral services will be conducted in Rockford Saturday at 2 p.m. in the McAllister-Julian-Poorman funeral home, 304 North 5th street. Dr. John Gordon, pastor of Second Congregational church, will officiate and interment will be in Owen Center cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening.

“The former, Ellen Kelley, Mrs. Rodgers was born Aug. 2, 1891, in Rockton, the daughter of Sam and Della Kelley. Surviving are her husband, John Rodgers; a daughter, June Sharp, Chicago, and a brother, Sam Kelley, Dixon.”

Jesse Martin Sharp and Ellen Amanda Kelley had the following child:

Jesse married Naomi Gerda Lindeman (1891–1984) on 18 August 1926 and became the step-father of her three children: Charles Carey (1914–1990), Orville Carey (1915–1974), and Geraldine Mary Carey (1920–2012).  Naomi was born on 21 Jan 1891 in Illinois to Swedish immigrants, Gustaf Alvar Lindeman (1871–1921) and Hulda Carolina Jansson (1866–1950), and grew up in Rockford. She married her first husband, Frank Brazil Carey (1890–1977), in 1907, and lived with his parents in Savanna, Carroll County, Illinois. Frank and Naomi lived in Perry, Dallas County, Iowa, but returned to Rockford, where they divorced around 1925.
