CFH First Draft: Frederick A Callin (1858-1920)

Frederick A Callin is the 75th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fifth Generation

75. Frederick A Callin (Thomas Jefferson-4, Thomas-3, James "2nd"-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 8 Oct 1858 in Olivesburg, Richland County, Ohio, and grew up in Weller Township. Frederick married Priscilla Creveling on 7 Oct 1883 in Richland County. Priscilla was the daughter of William F Creveling (1838–1876) and Harriett J Miller (b. 1844), born on 21 Mar 1864 in Richland County and raised in Blooming Grove.

They lived in Mansfield, where Fred was a driver and laborer. He died on 8 July 1920 at the age of 61 in Mansfield, and he was buried in Mansfield Cemetery. Priscilla remained in Mansfield, where she died on 24 Apr 1954 at the age of 90. She was buried in Mansfield Cemetery with Fred, and her obituary ran in the Mansfield News-Journal, 26 Apr 1954.

“Funeral services for Mrs. Priscilla Creveling Callin, 90, widow of Fred Callin, who died Saturday night at the Griffith Rest Home, will be held at the J.H. Finefrock and Sons Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow with Rev. Ben F Hagalbarger, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Mrs. Callin was born in Richland county March 21, 1864 and had been a lifelong resident of this community. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Cora Morris of Shenandoah, two grandchildren, Mrs. Margaret O'Hale of Wooster and Jack Clark of Mansfield, and four great grandchildren.”


Frederick A Callin and Priscilla Creveling had the following children:


i. Reid Adrian Callin was born on 12 May 1887 in Richland County, Ohio, and grew up in Mansfield. He was a lifelong bachelor, and lived in his parents' home at 32 Henry St. He worked as a chauffeur, and later on as an auto mechanic. Reid died on 12 Dec 1935 at the age of 48 and was buried in Mansfield Cemetery, Richland County, Ohio.

260 ii. Russell Bernard Callin, born 18 Mar 1894, Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio; married Dorothy Ladonna Yohn, 26 Jan 1925, Richland County, Ohio; died 17 Oct 1950, Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio.

261 iii. Madeline L Callin, born 20 Jan 1896, Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio; married Howard George Clark, 12 Feb 1919, Richland County, Ohio; died 8 June 1942, Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio.
