Fifth Generation

74. Clara A Callin (Thomas Jefferson-4, Thomas-3, James "2nd"-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 19 June 1856 in Richland County, Ohio, and grew up in Weller Township.

Clara and Jacob Mohn were married in 1875. Jacob was the son of Leonard Mohn (1810–1884) and Nancy Bach (1817–1915), born on 22 Dec 1845 in Pennsylvania. The Mohns  lived in Derry, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, but relocated their family to Ohio some time during the 1850s and settled in the township of Blooming Grove in Richland county.

Jacob was 18 years old in May 1864, when he mustered in with the 163rd Ohio Infantry at Camp Chase. His unit spent six months guarding Washington, reconnoitering the canal and turnpike to Richmond, and repairing defenses at Fort Pocahontas before heading back to Columbus and mustering out in September. They only lost 29 enlisted men to disease, and no reported combat deaths.

In 1870, young Jacob was listed as a farm laborer in the household of Christopher Hons. He seems to have been rather well off, having $300 in personal assets; and in 1875 married Clara Callin. By 1880, they lived in Olivesburg, where Jacob worked as a butcher and Clara raised their first two children.

In 1900 the Mohn family farmed in Vernon, Crawford County, Ohio. Clara administered her father’s estate in 1905, after he died. Soon after that, Clara and Jacob soon moved back to Richland County.

Jacob died on 18 Oct 1912 at the age of 66 in Jackson, Richland County, Ohio. Clara lived in Blooming Grove and died on 19 Aug 1924 at the age of 68 in Franklin, Richland County. They are buried in the Ganges Cemetery in Ganges, Richland County.
