Fourth Generation
40. Cyrus C Campbell (Ann Callin-3, John-2, James "1st"-1) was born on 23 Mar 1834 and grew up on his parents’ farm in Milton, Ashland, Ohio in 1850. Cyrus and Ursulla A Springer were married on 4 Jul 1859 in Ashland County, Ohio. Ursulla, daughter of John Springer and Elizabeth Carter, was born in Dec 1839 in Ohio. Her family lived in Montgomery, Ashland, Ohio in 1850.
Cyrus and Ursulla started their family in Ashland, Ashland County, Ohio. Cyrus mustered into the Union Missouri Volunteers as a private in Company A of the Cass County Cavalry Regiment of the Missouri Home Guards on 27 Jun 1861. He was appointed Second Lieutenant on 17 Sep 1861. The unit was involved in several skirmishes in the summer and fall of 1861, and mustered out on 28 Feb 1862. Since his second son was born in Nashville in the summer of 1864, it seems plausible that Cyrus transferred to a unit that participated in the Battle of Nashville, a key Union victory in December 1864, but without additional records, this is speculation.
By 1870, the Campbell family was living in Ashland, Ohio, again. Cyrus died on 21 Sep 1872 at the age of 38. (Per Marjorie Pearl, Irene Campbell's granddaughter: “There is a book of her family genealogy called Brice Miller "et-al" which lists Cyrus Colin Campbell's date of death as 21 Sep 1872 (source - Ursula's family bible records).”)
Ursulla soon remarried Robert Sutton, a publisher and Civil War veteran from New York. They had two daughters together in 1874 (Maude) and 1876 (Grace), and they moved, along with her Campbell sons, to Wapakoneta, Auglaize County, Ohio in 1880. Robert moved the family to Sidney, and died sometime before after 1894, when he published a railroad map. Widowed again, Ursulla moved to Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio. Ursulla died on 13 Jun 1924 at the age of 84 and was buried in Graceland Cemetery in Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio, with her older daughter, Maude.
Cyrus C Campbell and Ursulla A Springer had two children:
124 i. Alden Wilbur Campbell, born 13 Aug 1860, Ashland, Ohio; married Julia Margaret Kirkendall, 20 Jun 1885, Jackson County, Ohio; died 22 Oct 1936, Chicago, Cook, Illinois.
125 ii. Howard Waltz Campbell, born 10 Jul 1864, Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee; married Dora Helen Miller, 26 Aug 1896, Rains, Texas; died 7 Oct 1926, Emory, Rains, Texas.
