CFH First Draft: Huldah Montgomery Walker

Huldah Montgomery is the 27th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

27. Huldah Montgomery (Sarah Callin-3, James “2nd-2, James “1st”-1) was born 7 Mar 1829 in Richland County, Ohio. She married a school teacher named Isaiah Walker on 5 Jun 1849 in Richland County, and in the first few years of their marriage they lived in Jefferson, Richland County.

Isaiah was the son of James Walker (1771–1844) and Lucinda Barrell (1784–1871), born in Montville, Waldo County, Maine, on 7 Jan 1821. He and Huldah moved with their older daughter to Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana, in May 1859. Isaiah worked as a county surveyor for many years. In 1905, Isaiah and Huldah followed their daughters’ families to California.

Isaiah died at the home of his younger daughter, Mrs. Samuel Terry, in Glendora, Los Angeles County on 5 Nov 1906, and he was buried in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Huldah died 30 Dec 1918 in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, and was buried in Rochester with Isaiah.


Huldah Montgomery and Isaiah Walker had two children:


86 i. Clara A Walker was born in September 1851 in Ohio; married Cornelius Welch 12 Nov 1872; died 24 Jun 1932, in Long Beach, California.

87 ii. Mary Elvina Walker was born 18 May 1868 in Indiana; married Samuel Percy Terry on 12 Oct 1887; died 8 Apr 1957 in Alameda, California.
