Elvina Montgomery is the 26th person in a descendant report beginning with the earliest known ancestor of our Callin family, (1.) James Callin. This descendant report uses the Register Style of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society.

Fourth Generation
26. Elvina Montgomery (Sarah Callin-3, James “2nd-2, James “1st”-1) was born 16 May 1827 in Richland County, Ohio. She married Phillip Huffman on 16 Oct 1845. For the first few years of their marriage, Phillip farmed in Weller Township, but around 1860 they relocated to Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana. Sadly, their infant son, Martin, died from what the Rochester Sentinel “black canker” (severe diphtheria) not long after they arrived. They had two more children, but Elvina also died on 24 Aug1869. She is buried in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
After losing his wife, Phillip moved the family to Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana, where he established a grocery. He remarried on 24 Dec 1872 in Kosciusko, to Mary Goodwin (1835–1920), the widow of John Charles Woodward (1835–1863). Unfortunately, over the course of the decade, Philip lost his remaining children one by one to tuberculosis. He died on 27 Feb 1890 and was buried in Warsaw.
Elvina Montgomery and Phillip Huffman had six children:
i. Silas L Huffman was born on 20 Jan 1849, in Ohio. He died on 13 Oct 1872, at the age of 23, and was buried in Rochester, Indiana.
ii. Amelia C Huffman was born in 1854 in Ohio, and died as a teenager on 25 Feb 1871 in Rochester, Fulton County, Indiana.
iii. Oliver Huffman was born in 1855 in Ohio, died on 30 Jul 1879 at the age of 24, and was buried in Warsaw, Indiana.
iv. Martin Huffman was born in 1860 and died on 10 Jul1860 from severe diphtheria. He was buried in Citizen’s Cemetery in Rochester, Indiana.
v. John Huffman was born on 2 Feb 1861 in Indiana, died on 26 Mar 1885 at the age of 24, and was buried in Warsaw, Indiana.
vi. Izora Huffman was born on 24 Nov 1865, in Indiana. She died as a teenager on 11 Jan 1880, and was buried in Warsaw, Indiana.
