Fifth Generation

83. John H Hall (Louvina Callin-4, Hugh-3, James-2, James-1) was born on 26 Mar 1867 and spent his early childhood in Sparland, Marshall County, Illinois. His family lived in Louisa County, Iowa, and, by the time he was 18, in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska.

John married Lee Etta Heaney on 30 Jun 1888 in Beatrice. Etta was the daughter of William Wyley Heaney (1842–1905) and Miranda Thompson (1852–1918), born on 1 Aug 1872 in Quaker City, Guernsey County, Ohio. Her family soon moved to Beatrice and she grew up there.

John and Etta had a son, but they did not remain married for long. After they divorced, Etta remarried Simeon Benoni Ford (1869–1892) on 30 May 1892 in Beatrice. Simeon died on 19 Jun 1892, and Etta had his son, Benjamin Ford, on 7 Mar 1893. She then married her last husband, Hiram Armstrong Bales (1859–1949). Etta preceded Hiram in death on 18 Jan 1947 and was buried in Beatrice Cemetery in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. Her obituary appeared in the Beatrice Daily Sun on 19 Jan 1947.

“Mrs. Lee Etta Bales of 801 Herbert street died early Saturday morning at a local hospital. She was born Aug. 1, 1872 at Quacker [sic] City, Ohio. Since 1877, she has resided in Beatrice. She is survived by her husband, Hiram; two sons, Fred Hall of Lincoln and Ben Ford of Beatrice; brothers, William and Harry Heaney of Beatrice, Frank Heaney of Lincoln; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday, 2 p.m., from the Harman mortuary with Rev. Wayne Greene in charge. Burial will be in Beatrice cemetery.”

John H Hall and Etta Heaney had the following child:

277          i.   Fred Martin Hall, 16 Dec 1888, Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska; married Jennie M Shepardson, 18 Dec 1909, Grand Island, Hall, Nebraska; married Eleanora Rogers; died 29 Jan 1967.

John married Evelyn M George on 9 Sep 1900 in Beatrice. Evelyn was the daughter of William Shayle George (1851–1925) and Sarah M "Sadie" Nelson (1858–1937), born in Oct 1880 in Illinois. She grew up in Illinois and in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. By 1900, her family lived in Beatrice.

As with his first wife, John and Evelyn had a child together, and soon separated. She had a son, Jack B. "Bud" Burton (1905–1984), with a man named Jack Burton, but there is no record of a marriage. Then she married Oliver Wallace Tucker (1876–1953) on 25 Mar 1908 in Beatrice. They had four more children together. Evelyn Tucker died on 24 Jan 1962 and was buried in Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice.

By 1920, John resided with his sister Ida Jackson's family in Shannon, Atchison County, Kansas. In 1930, he was living with his younger sister, Maude Black, and her husband in Sni-A-Bar, Lafayette, Missouri. John died on 18 May 1930 in Lafayette County, Missouri, and was buried in Odessa Cemetery in Odessa, Lafayette County, Missouri.
