Fifth Generation

84. Bertha Olive Hall (Louvina Callin-4, Hugh-3, James-2, James-1) was born in 1872 in Illinois. By 1885, her family had settled in Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska. Bertha married Albert B Sisco there on 21 Apr 1889. Albert was the son of Daniel Sisco (1843–1881) and Margaret C "Maggie" Stullabarger (1848–1926), born on 26 Dec 1867 in Lee County, Illinois. He grew up in Reynolds, Lee, Illinois, and his family settled in Beatrice by 1880.

Olive died on 19 Dec 1897 and was buried in Beatrice Cemetery in Gage County, Nebraska. Her obituary appeared in The Beatrice Daily Times on 21 Dec 1897.

"Mrs. Bertha Olive Sisco, wife of A. B. Sisco, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Ida Jackson, Sunday morning, after an illness of about three months. She leaves a husband, three little children, the youngest about nine months old, her parents, two brothers, and two sisters to mourn her loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.S. Dudley and interment made in the old cemetery, yesterday afternoon. The mother of the deceased, on account of the Rock Island train not running on Sunday, was unable to arrive in time to attend the funeral services, but arrived just as the relatives returned from the cemetery."

Albert and his three children went to live with his mother in Beatrice. The youngest, Arthur, died in Feb 1898, and the other son, Herbie, died in Jul 1900. Albert married Rosa H Bradley on 17 Nov 1902 in Beatrice. They had a baby daughter, Bertha Mae Sisco, who was born on 18 Mar 1903 and died at age 2 on 1 Dec 1905. Albert died on 16 Feb 1912 in Beatrice and was buried in Beatrice Cemetery. His obituary appeared on the first page of The Beatrice Daily Express on 17 Feb 1912.

"A. B. Sisco, the well known bus driver of the city, died last evening at 5 o'clock after having been confined to his home for the past ten months, tuberculosis being the cause of death. Mr. Sisco had been in poor health for a number of years. Two years ago he was sick for some time, but recovered sufficiently to resume his work as driver for the W. H. Otto barn. Several months ago he again weakened, however, and gradually grew worse until his death. He leaves a wife, a daughter, Mrs. J. W. Thurman of Topeka, Kans., his mother, Mrs. Maggie Sisco, a sister, Mrs. George Comer, and a brother, Elmer Sisco of Peoria, Ill. His mother and sister live in Beatrice. Mr. Sisco was born in Rochelle, Ill., December 26, 1867. He came to Beatrice with his parents thirty-five years ago. Twenty-five years ago he entered the employ of W. H. Otto, the buss and hack man, and had been a faithful employe [sic] until his sickness forced him to stop work. He was married twice, to Miss Olive Howe [sic] in 1889 and to Miss Rose Bradley of Wymore in 1902. He was a jovial, likable man, and had a host of friends in the city who will learn of his death with the deepest regret. The funeral services will be held from the home, 321 South Tenth street, at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. U.G. Brown of Centenary M. E. church. Interment will be made in the Beatrice cemetery. The Loyal Mystic legion of which Mr. Sisco was a member, will probably have charge of the singing and the pall bearers will be selected from that lodge."
