Fifth Generation

68. Mary E Davidson (Sarah Montgomery-4, Elizabeth Callen-3, James "2nd"-2, James "1st"-1) was the youngest child of Henry and Sarah Davidson, born on 15 Nov 1854, soon after her family settled near Shedd. She grew up on the family farm and married her first husband, Charles W Malson (b. 1845) around 1874. Little is known about Charles, and most of that information comes from the Census, which puts his birthdate around 1844, his birthplace in Ohio, and tells us the birthplaces of his parents (father in Indiana, mother in Kentucky).

The couple had five children together, but only three survived childhood. Mary sued Charles for divorce in 1894, leaving her to raise the remaining three children. She married her second husband, Richard Ross Cunningham (1849–1926) on 12 Mar 1896. Ross was born on 6 Apr 1849 in Pickaway, Pickaway County, Ohio, and ran off to join the 110th Ohio Infantry at age 15, fighting for 18 months in the Civil War. He settled in Oregon after the war, and his first wife died in Harrisburg in 1891, soon after which, he also lost two children.

After they married, Mary and Ross moved to a house on Main Street in Lebanon. He died there on 24 June 1926; Mary suffered from a heart condition in her final three years and died on 19 July 1929 at the age of 74. They are buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon.

Charles W Malson and Mary E Davidson had the following children:

238 i. Commodore W Malson, born 19 Nov 1875, Halsey, Linn County, Oregon; married Lura Sarah Pugh, 18 Sep 1908, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon; died 17 May 1938, Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon.

ii. Lilli Malson was born about 1877 in Oregon; she presumably died after 1880.

iii. Dexter Malson was born in Dec 1880 in Oregon; he presumably died young.

239 iv. Bennett F Malson, born 7 June 1884, Halsey, Linn County, Oregon; married Isabel A Rounds, 25 Mar 1906, Garfield, Whitman County, Washington; died 14 May 1912, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.

240 v. Edna Hazel Malson, born 12 Oct 1888, California; married George Alexander Wishart, 1 Jun 1908, Multnomah County, Oregon; died 3 Feb 1919, Los Angeles County, California.
